How to Install Kernel 5.8.1 in Ubuntu / Linux Mint?
The below commands will work on Debian based systems.
Step 1: Download the deb files directly using wget , copy the below commands and paste it into terminal one by one according to your CPU architecture.
For 64 bit systems
cd /tmp
wget https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8.1/amd64/linux-headers-5.8.1-050801_5.8.1-050801.202008111432_all.deb
wget https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8.1/amd64/linux-image-unsigned-5.8.1-050801-generic_5.8.1-050801.202008111432_amd64.deb
wget https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8.1/amd64/linux-headers-5.8.1-050801-generic_5.8.1-050801.202008111432_amd64.deb
wget https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8.1/amd64/linux-modules-5.8.1-050801-generic_5.8.1-050801.202008111432_amd64.debStep 2: After successful downloading install it
sudo dpkg -i *.debStep 3: Verify installed Version
After successful installation reboot the system, Your new kernel will be installed and set as default, for checking use uname command
uname -r
Removing Kernel 5.8.1
For removing the Kernel 5.8.1 run the below command in the terminal or use the synaptic package manager
sudo apt-get remove linux-headers-5.8.1-* linux-image-5.8.1-*
