In this Tutorial, I will show you how to Install the Latest version of Kernel 5.8.5 On Ubuntu 20.04 LTS / 18.04 and LinuxMint.
The Latest stable version of Kernel is 5.8.5 and it released on 27th August 2020
Installation steps
The below commands will work on Debian based systems.Step 1: Download the deb files directly using wget , copy the below commands and paste it into terminal one by one according to your CPU architecture
For 64 bit systems
wget https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8.5/amd64/linux-headers-5.8.5-050805_5.8.5-050805.202008270831_all.deb
wget https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8.5/amd64/linux-headers-5.8.5-050805-generic_5.8.5-050805.202008270831_amd64.deb
wget https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8.5/amd64/linux-modules-5.8.5-050805-generic_5.8.5-050805.202008270831_amd64.deb
wget https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8.5/amd64/linux-image-unsigned-5.8.5-050805-generic_5.8.5-050805.202008270831_amd64.debStep 2: After successful downloading install it
sudo dpkg -i *.debStep 3: Verify installed Version
After successful installation reboot the system, Your new kernel will be installed and set as default, for checking use uname command
uname -r
Removing Kernel 5.8.5
For removing the Kernel 5.8.5 run the below command in terminal or use synaptic package managersudo apt-get remove linux-headers-5.8.5-* linux-image-5.8.5-*
