In this tutorial, I will show you how to install Firefox 81 on Ubuntu 20.04 / 18.04 LTS, LinuxMint 20, Fedora 32, and CentOS 7.X / 8.X.

Firefox most commonly used browsers by everyone and one of the standard browsers too. 

It is an opensource browser and it is developed by Mozilla Corporation and Mozilla Foundation and available for Multiple Operating systems (ie) Windows, Linux, Mac OSX. and it comes with its private mode and powerful plugins

Firefox Released its new stable version 81 on September 21,2020.

What's New in Firefox 81?

• Users are now able to control media playback via hardware media keys on a keyboard or headset or virtual media control interface
• Various security Fixes.

So how to install Firefox 81 on Ubuntu / LinuxMint / CentOS?

Method 1: (For Debian based systems) Via PPA.

The best and easy way is to upgrade firefox by updating the Repository, it will automatically be upgraded to a new version if the PPA is updated.

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

 Method 2: Via Flatpak

Step 1: Install Flatpak

Install it according to your OS distribution using the following link

Step 2: Search for the firefox package

flatpak search firefox

 Step 3: Install firefox using flatpak

flatpak install flathub org.mozilla.firefox

 Step 4: Run firefox

flatpak run org.mozilla.firefox/x86_64/stable

Method 3: Via tar file -- applicable for all distributions

Step 1: Download The Latest Version of Firefox 81 from their FTP using wget

For 32 bit systems

wget https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/81.0/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-81.0.tar.bz2

For 64 bit systems

wget https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/81.0/linux-x86_64/en-US/firefox-81.0.tar.bz2

Step 2:  Extract the tar package

tar -xf firefox-81.0.tar.bz2

Step 3:  Move the Firefox folder to opt

sudo rm -rf /opt/firefox80

sudo mv firefox /opt/firefox81

Step 4: Create Symbolic link for New Firefox as default

sudo mv /usr/bin/firefox /usr/bin/firefoxold

 sudo ln -s /opt/firefox81/firefox-bin /usr/bin/firefox
